Sunday School

Sunday School is held each Sunday at 9:30 AM.  We open with a general gathering, a prayer, and a hymn.  Afterwards we break up into two main adult classes.  There are also classes for children.   This year, in conjunction with the Church-wide project to read the entire Bible in 2019,  we are discussing the readings of  the week.

We have been using the Augsburg Bible Studies from Augsburg Fortress for many years.  The topics include:

March – May:  Discipleship and Mission

June – August:  Covenant in God

September – November:  Responding to God’s Grace

From Augsburg Fortress:

“Augsburg Adult Bible Study is a year-round Bible study that is released quarterly and is based on a six-year cycle as found in the International Uniform Lesson Series (National Council of Churches). Written by an array of accomplished theologians, this series provides terrific insights into scripture through questions, prayer, suggested memorization, and daily readings.

Each session:

  • Explores the meaning of the text from the viewpoint of the original writer and audience.  We also examine how the text applies to our lives today.
  • Includes a list of related texts for daily Bible reading
  • Provides extensive background on each text and recommendations for leading the sessions”

Bill Wickersham, Sunday School Superintendent can provide more information.
